Let’s focus on creating resilient communities.

Last November, I wrote to Katrine Conroy’s office asking for her Ministry to assist the Ecoforestry Institute Society (EIS) with their plan to purchase an additional six acres of old growth that were once part of the Wildwood Ecoforest.

Aside from protecting these ancient trees, the purchase of this land would’ve brought new jobs to the Cowichan Valley, along with an estimated investment of $25 million in research grants, supported by institutions including Simon Fraser University and the University of Concordia.

While I was disappointed by the Minister’s response, I will continue to advocate for more funding to be directed towards community-based conservation efforts.
